We are honored to host Maria Maea, a Made in LA (Hammer Museum) artist, for a comprehensive look into her foraging, weaving, and assemblage practices. Participants in this event will learn from a short presentation of Maea’s work, its ideology, and cultural history, and have a chance to ask questions, before heading into the local environment to find natural materials for weaving and assembling their own sculptural works. We’re thrilled to host this presentation and workshop, especially in recognition of Latinx Heritage Month — it’s an incredible opportunity to honor Indigenous/Latinx art skills and practices that work with the gifts bestowed by our natural environment.
