New moves for SALIMA Magazine

SALIMA Magazine began at the Feminist Center for Creative Work in 2020 at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The project was born of the desire to stay connected to community during a time when isolation became the norm, racial bias was silencing Black voices in digital spaces, and a certain kind of public interest in anti-Black violence felt fashionable. We are proud to have produced and released Issue 01: Emergence and Issue 02: Unplugging, which was supported by a grant from the California Arts Council, and to have begun work on a third issue around food and nourishment.

However, Salima will continue to carry out her beautiful vision for this magazine with the support of Madin Lopez at ProjectQ. As of Summer 2022, Issues 01 and 02 of SALIMA Magazine will be available for sale and wholesale through ProjectQ, as will all future issues, merch, and iterations of the magazine.

We asked Salima about this transition and she said, “I’ve missed the old SALIMA Magazine and FCCW crew terribly, and am so grateful for SALIMA to have a second chance, and for us to witness the fruits of the team’s labor on Issue 03.” She’s hoping to bring back some familiar faces to wrap up the third issue, and is very thankful to Madin Lopez for their generosity in prompting this handoff. “I met Madin years ago through FCCW, and am touched that the relationships I’ve made there continue to show up beyond the end of my time at FCCW. I look forward to the future of SALIMA, and the talented folks we will continue to uplift.”
